Lying twist
A lying twist that gently stretches the lower back and the sides of the body.
How to do it
- Lie on your back and hug one knee in.
- Guide it across your body to the floor.
- Extend the other arm out and look the opposite way.
Remember
Both shoulders stay heavy on the floor.
Take care
Put a pillow under the knee if it doesn’t reach.
Ask a professional first if you have:
- osteoporosis or low bone density (avoid deep rounding of the back and strong twists)
- recent back surgery or nerve pain down the leg
- a pregnancy (after about 16 weeks, don’t lie on your back or belly for long, and twist only gently)
- a hip replacement (deep hip bending, crossing the legs or turning the knee inward)
Stretch gently and never into pain. StretchUp gives general guidance and is not a medical device.
