Seated hamstring stretch
A simple floor stretch for the back of the thigh. You do one leg at a time, so you can feel each side clearly.
How to do it
- Sit with one leg straight, the other foot against the inner thigh.
- Sit tall and hinge forward over the straight leg.
- Reach toward your shin or foot.
Remember
Hinge from the hips, not the upper back.
Take care
A slight bend in the knee is fine.
Easier option
Sit on a folded blanket or a cushion, keep the knee slightly bent, or loop a towel around your foot instead of reaching for it.
A good moment for it
After a long day of sitting, or after a walk or a run.
Ask a professional first if you have:
- osteoporosis or low bone density (avoid deep rounding of the back and strong twists)
- recent back surgery or nerve pain down the leg
Stretch gently and never into pain. StretchUp gives general guidance and is not a medical device.
